Upgrading Firmware for USB Connected Devices

I’ve been trying to get my Windows 8.1 x64 machine to recognize usb android devices to update the firmware/rom. And everywhere I look and things I’ve tried have been failure, most gave up and used Win 7.

First off you have to disable driver signing
Run cmd as administrator (elevated command prompt)

bcdedit -set loadoptions ENABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
bcdedit -set TESTSIGNING OFF

install the driver that comes with the device, Minix Neo 7, Samsung Phone, etc.

When plugging in the device it will say (Device Descriptor Request Failed) or Error 43

In Device Manager under Universal Serial Bus find USB Root Hub, right click on one of them and click the power tab, if it says “Device Descriptor Request Failed” then you found the right one. Right click on it and disable it.

Now plug the device and the message won’t be there, and you should be able to use the firmware/rom tools to update the device.

to turn driver signing back on open up an administrator prompt

bcdedit -set loadoptions DISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
bcdedit -set TESTSIGNING ON
